Welcome to the Paul T. Albert Memorial School!

HISTORY

1980-81 the first half of the school was built which is the high school side and five years later the elementary side was essential.

When the building was first built it was named after an elder from the community, Paul T. Albert. The name was chosen by the community when they got together also they voted his name. There were many reasons why the school was named after him. Most of all he was a respected leader to the village of Tununak and he cared for the village and people.

Felix Albert, the son of Paul T. Albert remembered when he was a young boy, "My dad was a good leader in lots of way. Him and his friends use to get together early in the morning drinking coffee and discuss some issues." He was also a good translater in public meeting and church. Paul made sure everyone understood and get the message right.

He wanted people to be literate and being educated was important to him for the community. He had like a vision that the community would be educated, people would have jobs, and people staying with their family, friends, and children/kids.
