Procedures

 

1. Telephone local law enforcement agency and treat injured until law enforcement and/or medical personnel arrive.

 2. If no buildings are endangered, use signal/bell/voice code to instruct students to stay inside and in classrooms.

 3. If buildings are damaged, evacuate all students and staff away from wreckage by sounding appropriate signal/bell/voice code and using fire drill procedures. Evacuate to an area uphill and upwind if possible. Maintain control of students and take roll.

 4. If any students or staff are trapped or missing, assign staff members to begin search & rescue efforts until law enforcement or fire personnel arrive.

 5. Maintenance/Custodian should turn off power supplies, electricity, oil, gas lines in affected buildings.

 6. Notify Superintendent's Office at (907) 543-4810.

 7. Notify FAA and provide them with a description of aircraft and if known the number of persons on board the aircraft.

 8. If possible, tape off area around entire wreckage to protect investigation. Have staff members stand guard, if safe.

 9. Any witnesses should stay in the immediate area for questioning.

 10. If wreck is serious, students may be moved to a designated alternate location. Take roll and notify parents or guardians of students as soon as possible.

 11. If the normal routine of daily school activities is changed due to the wreck of an aircraft, activate the school Crisis Response Team and assign duties.
