Procedures

1. Sound fire alarm whenever a fire is detected or reported.

 2. Evacuate all students and staff away from threatened buildings using fire drill. Maintain control of students and take roll.

 3. Treat injured as much as possible while awaiting fire, medical and law enforcement personnel.

 4. If smoke is in the immediate vicinity, instruct students to "Get Low and Get out," crawling if necessary to avoid fumes.

 5. Implement School Crisis Response Team.

 6. If no escape is possible, close as many doors as possible between you and the fire. Stuff cracks and openings with wet cloth and avoid fanning flames. Lay on floor to avoid fumes/smoke. Wait for help.

 7. If anyone is reported to be trapped or injured, assign Crisis Response Team to search and rescue while waiting for fire or law enforcement personnel.

 8. Maintenance/Custodian should turn off power supplies, electricity, gas and oil valves.

 9. Notify Superintendent's Office (907) 543-4810.

 10. If possible, tape off necessary area around any explosions or fire to preserve investigations by law enforcement or fire agencies.

 11. Any witnesses should be gathered for fire or law enforcement questioning.

 12. If fire is serious, students and staff may be moved by available transportation to an alternate location.

 13. Establish a student release center and follow procedures outlined for "Student Release."
