Procedures
1. Sound fire alarm whenever a fire is detected
or reported.
2. Evacuate all
students and staff away from threatened buildings
using fire drill. Maintain
control of students and take roll.
3. Treat injured as
much as possible while awaiting fire, medical and
law enforcement personnel.
4. If smoke is in
the immediate vicinity, instruct students to "Get
Low and Get out," crawling
if necessary to avoid fumes.
5. Implement School
Crisis Response Team.
6. If no escape is
possible, close as many doors as possible between
you and the fire. Stuff
cracks and openings with wet cloth and avoid
fanning flames. Lay on floor
to avoid fumes/smoke. Wait for help.
7. If anyone is
reported to be trapped or injured, assign Crisis
Response Team to search and
rescue while waiting for fire or law
enforcement personnel.
8.
Maintenance/Custodian should turn off power
supplies, electricity, gas
and oil valves.
9. Notify
Superintendent's Office (907) 543-4810.
10. If possible,
tape off necessary area around any explosions or
fire to preserve
investigations by law enforcement or fire agencies.
11. Any witnesses
should be gathered for fire or law
enforcement questioning.
12. If fire is
serious, students and staff may be moved by
available transportation to
an alternate location.
13. Establish a
student release center and follow procedures
outlined for "Student
Release."
