A Major Disturbance on Campus may result when students move about in large groups, challenging authority, committing acts of vandalism, etc., to the point where the principal determines that the safety of students and staff is jeopardized.

Procedures

1. Principal/designee evaluates the situation, number of students involved, nature of disturbance, weapons involved, etc., to determine if the situation is of major magnitude and seriousness to warrant law enforcement intervention and any other extraordinary measures.

 2. If necessary secure the building.

 3. Notify the Superintendent's Office and local law enforcement agency.

 4. Inform disruptive students who refuse to report to class that they are subject to suspension, expulsion, and possible arrest.

 5. Utilize classified staff, law enforcement officers, and if requested district office personnel, etc., to move students either into classrooms or off campus. Activate Crisis Response Team.

 6. If time permits and staff members are available, parents of disruptive students are to be called.

 7. Teachers will maintain classes and take roll call at the direction of the principal, and should be prepared to follow any further directives.

 8. Under extreme circumstances, discuss with Superintendent closing of school. Schools may be closed only at the direction of the Superintendent.
