Procedures
1. Immediately discontinue use of all portable
radio equipment such as two-
way radios. Use the intercom system to alert staff
and to turn off all portable radio equipment.
2. Notify the
Superintendent's Office, and, if it is deemed
necessary, implement the
school evacuation plan.
3. Notify the local
law enforcement agency and fire response personnel.
4. In the event of
a school evacuation, under the direction of
law enforcement personnel
conduct a search utilizing appropriate school
staff, (e.g., principal/designee, custodian and
maintenance personnel).
5. Keep students
and staff out of all buildings until advised by
law enforcement authority
and/or fire department that it is safe to return.
General
1. Upon receipt of a bomb threat call keep the
caller on the telephone as long as possible.
2. Complete the
Bomb Threat Checklist.
3. Provide the law
enforcement authority with a copy of the
completed Bomb Threat
Checklist.
NOTE: Although bomb threats may seem to be a
nuisance, the threat must be
taken seriously. Where uncertainty about a
bomb threat exists,
evacuation must be the rule rather than
the exception.
